5 Secret Places to Relax in the Heart of Munich

5 Secret Places to Relax in the Heart of Munich
Lots of people, hustle and bustle - a visit to Munich's city center can be exhausting on certain days. Luckily you have us, because we'll show you our favorite secret corners and hidden passages where you can find some peace and quiet.
Relaxation Royale in the Cabinet Garden
Right next to the Allerheiligenhofkirche church, you will find one of our favorite hangouts in the residence complex: the Kabinettsgarten (Cabinet Garden) with its pretty water pools and rose bushes. It's a wonderful place to relax from the hustle and bustle of the city, to take a break from extensive city tours or shopping sprees. The best way to reach the Cabinet Garden is via Marstallplatz, as this is the only public entrance.
Munich's Imperial Castle: The Old Court
The Alter Hof is located in the heart of the old town, and yet it is often unknown even to the locals. For centuries, this was once the imperial castle of the Wittelsbach dynasty in Munich. You can sit on one of the benches surrounding the fountain in the middle of the courtyard and watch the groups of tourists passing by. Also, make sure you visit the Infopoint! In the basement, you can learn all about the Imperial Castle and discover old Munich history in a wonderful permanent exhibition.
A Very Special Section at Viktualienmarkt
Did you know that the 110+ stalls at Munich's most famous market are spread over seven sections? Section VI is rarely overcrowded: With its new, young stalls, this is one of our favorite corners to relax from the hustle and bustle of the market and enjoy a fresh snack. This is where you will find Munich-brewed kombucha, fermented foods and vegan delicacies. Wooden chairs will invite you to sit down and take a break.
Quiet Moments and Culinary Delights at Asamhof
Between Kreuz-, Brunn- and Sendlinger Straße lies a little-known gem with passages and paths, works of art, small shops and a number of restaurants. We recommend to first pay a visit to the Asamkirche church, the magnificent baroque jewel of the Asam brothers. After that, relax with coffee or lunch in the Asamhof court.
Historic and Yet Modern: The Maxburg
Few visitors know about the inner courtyard of the buildings between Lenbachplatz, Pacelli and Maxburgstrasse. Here there once stood the 16th-century Alte Maxburg, a city palace of the Wittelsbach dynasty. Today, a variety of cafés and bars invite you to enjoy trendy lemonade drinks and tasty bowls, but also classic coffee and Prinzregententorte cake. Enjoy a break here to escape from the roar of the surrounding streets and construction sites.
